There are 3 ways to use your crocheted locomotives as plush locomotives, which I will cover in detail.
The first option is to use your own hair to wrap the braid over the base. This will give a faux loc look while still having soft locs. Wendy from F aux Locs in London did this faux bob look as well as a long, soft brown look (using our 23″ – 24″ long braided faux locs in chocolate brown ombre 1B/30). He untied the bulb and wrapped it tightly around the roots. The key to maintaining this tension-free relaxation is to not wrap the roots too tightly, but not too loosely. Be like gold glitter and do it right.
A second option is to wrap the braid around the hair at the roots to create a distressed look. This will include using a passion curl water wave hair curler or curling exhausted hair. An alternative to this is to wrap the throat blocks all the way down. Which is more likely to make you look anxious. I will talk more about this in the next section. These blocks are also considered soft blocks because they are not hard, but have more of a faux-lock look and usually have a distressed texture.
This is my go-to hairstyle to create a soft look. Every stylist has their preferences, but I love this type of hair for a soft wrap. Simply because depending on how you wrap it, you can get different looks. Can be used as a base and/or wrap hair for fluffy heads using braided heads, braided hair or marley hair as a base.
You can use it to make soft distressed blocks for use in wrapping. Or, if it’s tightly coiled, you can use them to create traditional soft faux braids, but they’ll still have a softer feel than marley or kanekalon hair. Also, this hair is easier to use than water wave hair. Because it hugs the hair once it’s tangled, it’s less likely to fall out. I would recommend this hair type for both beginners and professionals. Think of it as soft curly marley hair. So you have that kinky wave, but without the harsh texture. Since it is quite curly, it may seem shorter at first, but the hair is quite long.
In the past, people only used water wave hair for braids and passion twists. Hair usually has a smoother, less messy texture than coiled hair. To create more texture with this hair, you may need to wrap the hair more than once for layering if that’s the look you’re going for.

Can marley hair be used for soft scalp? The answer is yes and no, depending on whether other hairs are used and the wrapping method. Using marl hair as a base and wrapping your hair for soft buns may not work if they are wrapped tightly like you would normally do with soft fake hair buns. To get fluffy marley hair heads, use marley hair as a base and other wrap hairs to get them. Or mix some marley hair with other braided hair.
