My work colleagues kept saying, people will think you are going crazy, you have a mental problem or you are just a crazy person. While I may be all that, but so what? Finally, I listened to reason and took out the whiteheads. I went to Zimbabwe with my fur and since I rarely wash my hair, some people looked at me with question marks on their foreheads as if asking “are you crazy” and I smiled politely. Becoming comfortable in my own skin happened very quickly for me and to some extent, I think it was imposed and I had to do it. In other words, I had no choice. Having crooked teeth and not being able to afford braces was not in the household budget, I had a scar on my right cheek that I got when I was about 9 years old, my primary school teacher. Part of life and high school it was quite unpleasant. . All the expulsions and bullying were directed at me and I had to learn early on that I was different and I couldn’t fit in, even if I wanted to. Instead of wanting and striving for what I didn’t have, I had to be comfortable and work with what I had. I was and still am beautiful in my own way. Although the scar is still there, when I look in the mirror, I no longer see the scar. I only see me. My teeth are no longer a problem when I smile. I learned to smile in a way that hides a lot of crookedness. Only when I laugh, and I laugh often, do you see my crooked teeth. Likewise, I am beautiful in my own way and this is me.
