You will find that with the Braid-and-Wrap method, most people use FreeTress water wave braids and crochet hair. You may also need a regular hers or Marley hair braid to add length or thickness to the main braid (the braid or twist you will wrap the Water Wave hair into). Some people just use their hair.

By using the Braid-and-Wrap method, it becomes possible to create areas of various colors. Blonde options are the most popular, but I love the textured highlights of Hair by Mason’s fall color. They are amazing 😍!

Currently, there are only a few brands that sell pre-locked Butterfly Locs, namely Janet Collection, Toyotress, and Niseyo. However, as the style becomes more popular, there will surely be more players and options on the market. I personally prefer the crochet method because it saves a lot of time – you don’t have to braid and then wrap; just corn and crochet.
