French braids, and we lived with my mom during her first breast cancer, so sometimes I used to do Grandma’s French braids at school. The girls sat behind me and stroked the braids because they were so perfect. True story! Finally, my mother took me to a French braiding class. My thick hair and I were there to train him. He came home very upset, and I went into the bathroom at the age of 9, reached behind me, and did to my hair what I had just seen the teacher do during class. He was surprised. But, hey, he ran away! I have been the official braiding technician for every little girl’s hair in our forever home.

We affectionately refer to the Little A stage as the “baby mullet” stage. The front is short, but the back is long.

And yes, we can cut the back, but cutting a girl’s hair is different than cutting a boy’s hair! You don’t want to do it just because you want to let it grow!

A few weeks ago I was struggling to come up with ideas on how to style my daughter’s hair who doesn’t have a ponytail on the top of her head. I searched Pinterest, and surprisingly, “little girl hairstyles” came up as five pins. WHAT!? Pinterest failed? I know. I was amazed.

So I decided to take matters into my own hands, using a few simple hairstyles of my own, and some cute ones from my sister-in-law. Because I tell you, my niece is always good.

Whether your child has hair or not, a simple headband is always a good choice. It’s easy and requires no skill on your part.

The next hairstyle we did with our daughter was a small ponytail on the top of her head. When she has enough hair to do this, put it all together and secure with a small hair tie and maybe some ribbon for accessories.

Pigtails are good if the child’s hair is too long to cover a gap on the top of the head. Again, just part the middle and make two small ones on the top of the head.

The following hairstyle was Little A’s hairstyle for a while, but I think it’s too long to do it again. On the tail! You can do it with or without clips, that’s fine.

Another easy way is to pin your hair with bobby pins. An alligator clip with teeth is best because it doesn’t slide as smoothly. It is very good to remove the hair from the eyes but not too difficult. (Also, this bow is from Rylee Dee Boutique and I love it!)

The last three require more patience from him, and more skill from you. They are not difficult, but you need a few small bobby pins to cut your back while working. The first is a bang in the front, separated into two tails in the back. You can put it in a circle like I did in this picture, or if your daughter’s hair is shorter, leave it in a small ponytail.

Then, you can do two front ponytails and then back to two ponytails/bones.

Finally, you can do three tails at the same time. Start at the front with the tail, then add to the middle tail, and add to the third tail at the back. This one you will want to use a clip to hold your hair while tying the ponytail. You can also do it with two tails.

I hope these ideas help! And they might even give you more inspiration for a different hairstyle! Little girl hairstyles and little girl hairstyles are not as scary as they sound. And they don’t require much skill (remember, I did it!), so don’t be afraid.

One tip, put your daughter in her high chair and give her lots of cereal while you do her hair. That’s the only way Little A will stay!! I am a THING OF LIGHT. I eat two eggs for breakfast, always have curly hair, and have about ten blue and white shirts. One day I realized that I was doing the same thing as Tiny every day. I pulled him on a half horse and it was fine. Not only is it easy to style, it only takes about 30 seconds, which is FOREVER for a toddler who wants to run and play.
